Introduction

In this blog post, we will examine some of the most recent Meteor updates and releases from the month of September. Update to Meteor 2.8 beta.7, Hackathon results, Meteor Ambassador introductions, fresh Meteor material, and more!

We have a lot of wonderful things in store for us in October, but let’s take a moment to reflect on September.

September 2022

Here is a summary of what occurred in Meteor in September. We have put a lot of effort into bringing you new Meteor features and upgrades. Let’s begin!

Meteor 2.8 Beta.7

While Meteor 2.8 is nearly ready for release, it is now in b̵e̵t̵a̵ ̵7̵ rc.0. We assure you that the extra time spent waiting will be worthwhile.

You may use meteor update — release 2.8-rc.0 to update your app.

Here’s a list of some of the updates included in this version:

  • New Mongo Package Async API PR
  • Updated MongoDB driver to 4.8 PR
  • Updated MongoDB driver to 4.9 PR
  • Update Cordova Android to 10.1.2 PR
  • Upgrade Node to v14.20.0 PR
  • Docs improvements and bug fixes
  • Update skeletons
  • New Chakra-UI skeleton
  • SolidJS skeleton

Hackathon Winners

The winners of our 2022 Meteor Hackathon deserve our hearty congratulations! This year, the goal was to build an app that was impactful. Ideas for improving society, protecting animals, and addressing climate change abounded during this year’s event.

For this competition, we awarded three teams with cash prizes totaling $3,500; first place received $2,000!

The top 3 winners are shown below, going from first to third place:

  1. Fasalians
  2. Sus GAWKY (also won Best Presentation)
  3. De-central Budapest

Meteor Impact Is Almost Here

The third annual Meteor Impact conference will take place this year on October 13th and 14th. In less than one week, we will be holding our annual community event.

Over 490 people attended last year’s Meteor Impact, and 40 speakers shared their expertise about Meteor. Community members from all across the world attended the two-day event.
